Personal Description:
I take great pride in my teaching and thoroughly enjoy each unique journey i embark on with my students. It is incredibly exciting to figure out what works for each student, but also how to bring out the best in them! Lessons are supposed to be fun, enjoyable but rewarding too, with a clear practise plan and structure to the lessons we can achieve wonderful things!
I am a professional violist, and a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music.
I am the founding member of the Fitzroy String Quartet, winners of the 2020 Royal Overseas League Competition. We are also artists on the Pro Quartet International Artists Scheme as well as selected artists on Dimore deal Quartetto based in Italy. We have been fortunate enough to travel across the world and were notably invited to be the international string quartet in residence in the University of the Freestate South Africa.
As an orchestral musician I regularly appear with Manchester Camerata and have had the pleasure of performing with the Northern Ballet, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestras.
I recently took part in the premier of Rumi the Musical in the West End and have enjoyed performing g alongside Sting at the Royal Albert Hall.
Tutoring Experience:
I currently hold teaching positions at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, Wycombe Abbey, North London Collegiate School and Queen Anne’s School.
I have also been teaching privately and have a amassed a wonderful class of students outside of my teaching posts. I regularly prepare students for ABRSM exams from prep test through to diploma and have also prepared many students for scholarship auditions to many of the UK’s leading schools including: Harrow Boys School, St Paul’s Girls School, NLCS and Godolphin and Latymer School. I also regularly prepare students for Music college Junior and Senior Colleges.
I also encourage students where possible to apply for the National Orchestras and have successfully helped my students gain place in both the National Children’s Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra’s of Great Britain.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to music tuition is tailored to each individual student. From our very first lesson I will discuss repertoire and a range of technical exercises / studies that are appropriate and will also discuss with the student their aims and objectives for their studies. Learning an instrument is fun and can be incredibly rewarding too! My job is to bring out the best in every student and support them through every difficulty they encounter!
I also value input from each student, whilst trying to push in a positive way, it is invaluable they are able to contribute towards repertoire decisions and to how they wish to progress.
