Personal Description:

It is a well-known fact that drums are one of the most challenging instruments to learn (and this can be daunting!). I am here to help. With over 20 years of experience as a professional drummer, I offer you a blend of technical skill, industry experience, and a passion for teaching.

My lessons are enriched by a wide variety of experiences that made me the drummer I am today: from years spent sight-reading in a silver band; to composing and recording drums for seven rock/pop studio albums; to gigging across the country in originals and functions bands; and achieving a degree in Music Production with honours.

Tutoring Experience:

I currently teach a range of ages and abilities from my home drum studio. My current students range from complete beginners to intermediate drummers looking to further their techniques/skills and work towards grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I specialise in teaching Rock and Pop drumming, with an emphasis on embracing creativity and honing technical ability. Paying close attention to how musical intuition is an integral part of drumming, I help students to get to know their own creative expression through experimenting with musical tools such as dynamics, energy, tempo etc. I also focus on technical ability through the use of rudiments, improving coordination, and limb independence. From here, students can gain the confidence to compose their drumming to match the mood and storytelling of any song in any genre.

But most importantly, progressing as a drummer should be about fun. Your lessons and routines should be as enjoyable as possible and unique to you. I offer fun and engaging lessons for all abilities and ages. From interesting practice routines and challenges to learning songs, there is always a fun and exciting way to learn. Whether you’re starting from scratch, working towards grades or refining your technique as an intermediate drummer, I tailor my lessons towards goals that are meaningful to my students.

I offer lessons online or in-person 7 days a week from my home music studio. Lessons in-person benefit from audio recordings of your drumming to provide immediate feedback in lessons as well as for you to playback at home to track your progress. For both online and in-person lessons, your practice routines and challenges can be sent to you online as playable sheet music with adjustable speed (BPM) and a click track.
