Personal Description:

An experienced Greek language teacher, native Greek speaker, and holder of a BA in Greek Language with specialisation in Linguistics. You can tell I love studying as I also have an MA in Contemporary History and am currently a PhD Candidate at the University of Athens.

I have always been extremely fascinated by the process of learning a new language and am just as passionate about teaching. I do enjoy grammar and syntax a bit more than I should (how can you not be? It's the architecture of language!) but I' m trying to control it and rarely scare students away these days.

I believe that communication is the ultimate goal of learning a language; my job is to provide the method, resources and inspiration learners need to trust their abilities and take ownership of their learning. Language cannot be studied in isolation from the culture that produced it, so in my lessons I incorporate elements of history and culture for a more engaging and well-rounded learning experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor of Greek since 2015 with experience of teaching all levels from beginner to proficient users, including preparing students for GCSE and A Level exams with excellent results.

I also have years of experience teaching in Greek schools in the UK, delivering lessons to mixed classes with bilinguals and learners of Greek as a second language.

Teaching Approach:

The teaching methods and the supporting materials are always chosen according to the learner's goals. I strongly encourage my students to get as much exposure to the Greek language and culture as possible, so that they never stop building on what they learn during the lesson. I always try to adapt the structure of the lessons to students' evolving needs, using interesting and engaging content during classes.

Media such as music and movies are an essential part of the learning process and since I have a passion for history, I always aim to incorporate these elements of Greek culture into my lessons. As much as I love grammar and etymology, language learning should not be restricted to grammar and vocabulary: it's a never ending journey and I consider it my responsibility to make it as rich, stimulating and fun as possible!
