Personal Description:

I received Putonghua (Madarin) Proficiency Certificate in 2015 and I am fully eligible to teach Chinese as a foreign language. I graduated from the University of Leeds MA (Hons) Disability and Special Education in 2014. I completed BA (Hons) Sociology and Social Policy in 2012. I enjoy teaching very much and I am a professional Chinese teacher in Leeds, UK. I love Chinese literature and I also write modern poems and novels in my spare time. I am also a photographer too.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor for since 2007 and now set up in Leeds, UK and surrounding areas teaching Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese) and English. I set up a Chinese tuition centre - Bardon Tuition - The best local Chinese learning tuition centre! There have been a sufficient amount of students with me - children from 5 years old, high school students aiming for GCSE/ALEVEL Chinese or HSK, businessmen, professionals in all areas, UK government programmes with individual tailored learning course.

Teaching Approach:

I love teaching, knowledge empowerment and critical thinking. I hope my students can be able to create their own sentences and have their own thoughts when they learn this new language and Chinese culture, instead of simply memorising words and sentences. Therefore, I focus on providing guidance and useful formulars for you to master this new language. Learning Chinese with me is fun, not boring!

Each lesson is tailored to individual with the emphasis primarily on the enjoyment of learning a new language and the learning process. I aspire to develop the student`s ability in a constructive concise manner without overwhelming or stifling the student`s natural creativeness. Each lesson is taught in a relaxed enthusiastic environment to help promote positive learning.

Relevant materials and handouts will be provided for each lesson. Lesson plans will be designed individually according to your ability, preference and learning progress. HSK books (1-6) or New Practical Chinese Reader can be used during our lesson.

She structures her classes well and always comes prepared. I really liked how she shared useful resources, including film recommendations, to aid my learning. She taught me how to create sentences rather than individual words, which meant I could use what I learnt in a variety of contexts. I would definitely recommend her!

From Wendy (5/5): My husband and I have been learning to speak Cantonese with Yue for 6 weeks so far. Yue explains things very clearly and we have learned how to construct our own sentences and questions, rather than just learning to repeat specific phrases. We have worksheets and “homework” every week after our video calls to help us practise what we’ve gone through in the lessons.

Yue is very friendly and patient, helping us to learn at our own pace. I had a limited amount of spoken Cantonese but my husband was a complete beginner and we have both learned a lot already and grown in confidence.

From Calvin (5/5): From first point of reaching out and looking to find a teacher to help me build on my current Cantonese (which is absolutely terrible) I was nervous to find a teacher that would help me feel comfortable. I came across Yue who has been absolutely amazing, she teaches you straight from the beginning and doesn’t make you feel stupid or shy. Yue breaks down the meaning of each word and how it can be used in different situation. 10/10 would recommend Yue for anyone from beginner to any level.

She is very experienced and since the first class she has customised the lessons so I practice with the correct subjects. Even if our classes have been entirely by Skype, they have been very productive and useful. As she is native Cantonese, she is constantly teaching cultural and language tips that they would be very difficult to find in a textbook.

From Simon (5/5): I was a complete beginner before going to see Yue but after two lessons I have picked up so much and it comes down to Yue's teaching method.

From the topics we worked on in the first lesson I was unsure why some of those topics were in there. When I got into the second lesson it became clear to me that the topics and more specifically the phrases used in lesson one were the building blocks for me to be able to play around with the language and build my own questions and answers.

I'm enjoying the lessons, but more than that I'm having fun playing with the language and annoying my wife (who is Chinese and fluent in Cantonese) as I build my own sentences.

I'm a headteacher, leaving for China to set up a school there in a few weeks, and Yue tailors my weekly two-hour sessions to suit my needs. The pace is fast and I'm learning a lot; Yue is incredibly supportive and encouraging and is telling me lots about life in China as well. The resources she produces for lessons are first rate - each lesson, she gives me handouts and worksheets, and then after the lesson she uploads sound files to Dropbox so that I can listen to these during the week and continue practising. I am extremely glad I chose Yue as my teacher - a lovely person and an excellent teacher.
