Personal Description:

Born in South Africa, I've been living and working Internationally for more than 15 years (incl. Mozambique, Indonesia, the UK, Iraq, and Tunisia). A highly skilled Finance Professional in International Development Finance, I've always had a passion for teaching.

In 2007, this desire to teach led me to complete the TEFL certificate course (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) at the Cape Town School of English. In 2020, to refresh my knowledge and enhance my techniques, I completed the ITA Online TEFL Certification Course (International TEFL Academy). In 2022, I obtained the TBE (Teaching Business English) certification.
Since 2020, I’ve gained extensive experience in teaching English (EFL/ESL), both online and in-person. To date, I’ve completed in excess of 215 lesson hours.

My native language is English, and I’m fluent in Afrikaans. I also have intermedia**Contact Detail Removed**vel skills in French, and I’m at beginner level in Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic (MSA).

Teaching Experience:

In 2007, I completed the TEFL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) at the Cape Town School of English. At the time, I was working full-time in Finance, so my actual teaching experience has been limited until a few years ago.

In 2009 I volunteered as a Reading & Number Partner at a Primary School in London (UK), through a child mentor scheme aimed at children who needed extra help in reading and maths. This involved working with the school coordinator to plan and prepare lesson activities, listening to children read, playing number games and providing motivation and support. I enjoyed spending time in the classroom, and it was gratifying to see the effect that even small improvements had on the children.

In 2011 I volunteered as a FAST School Partner in London (UK). FAST (Families and Schools Together) was an early-intervention programme aimed at providing encouragement and guidance to parents for getting more involved in their child's education. I was involved in planning, preparing and delivering activity sessions, and keeping attendance records.

Since 2020, I’ve gained extensive experience in teaching English (EFL/ESL), both online and in-person. To date, I’ve completed in excess of 215 lesson hours.

My students come from diverse backgrounds and age groups, and are located in different parts of the world, including Canada, France, Tunisia, Senegal and Belgium.

Teaching Approach:

My lessons are student-centered, engaging and flexible! Lessons are continuously adapted according to the level and progress of individual students.

Lessons focus on the individual needs of the student - pronunciation refinement, general conversation practice, exam preparation, reading comprehension, writing correction, job interview preparation, etc.

Lessons normally last 45 - 60 minutes, and are done online via webcam (Skype, Zoom, Google Meet). (In-person lessons are possible, and would normally take place at my home.)

The focus of lessons will initially be based on a student needs assessment carried out at the start of your course, and subsequent lessons will be adapted based on your progress throughout the duration of a specific course. Learning areas identified may include:
* Refining your pronunciation
* Practicing everyday language and conversational skills
* Exam preparation, focusing on specific grammar and/or vocabulary
* Reading comprehension and practice
* Writing correction and practice
* CV and Cover letter drafting
* Job interview preparation

Lessons are conducted almost entirely in English. This has shown to be the most effective way for students to learn a foreign or second language!

I offer lessons weekdays, on weekends, and some evenings. Please contact me to arrange a time that suits you (my hours are quite flexible).
