Personal Description:
I am a highly qualified, experienced and very friendly full-time tutor of French, Spanish and English at all levels. I also teach English for Academic Purposes, providing tuition for A level and Higher Education students of any subject wanting to improve their essay and dissertation writing skills. I have been a GCSE and A level examiner. I love languages and linguistics and lived for many years in France and Spain, where I was a freelance portrait and landscape artist, before returning to the UK and settling in North Worcestershire. Alongside tutoring I enjoy studying and am learning Italian. In my spare time I also enjoy painting, reading and gardening, as well as music and films of different genres, cultures and countries.
I offer a 50% reduction for the first hour's introductory tuition and the prices quoted are based on tutoring from my home or online on a one-to-one basis; additional charges apply for tutoring at other locations and reduced charges (per person) apply for tutoring more than one person.
Additional charges apply for certain qualifications and for Business French and Spanish.
After the introductory session, I request payment in advance for blocks of four consecutive lessons or for blocks of ten for which a 10% discount is offered.
Teaching Experience:
I've been teaching French, Spanish and English to young people and adults since 2007; usually as a private tutor but I also worked for 2 years in an independent school teaching French to Spanish pupils. I am an ESOL Consultant, creating full courses for organisations supporting individuals and communities with limited English and training their tutors. I am ESOL Coordinator for an organisation which supports refugees.
I have significant experience in working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including physical impairment and lifelong developmental disabilities such as autism.
Teaching Approach:
I tailor lessons to the individual needs of learners using a wide range of multi-modal resources and authentic materials, with an emphasis on functional language skills and effective communication. After lessons I will provide students with any PowerPoints containing lesson content and other relevant resources so they can reinforce their learning between lessons; presentations are often embedded with audio-files, media articles and links to YouTube videos and other webpages. Depending on the needs and preferences of the student, I contextualise the language within the country/ies of interest.
I can provide online tuition using the Zoom Meeting platform, which replicates face-to-face tuition (i.e. shared screen for PowerPoints, videos, websites etc… as well as annotation tools) but can take place in the comfort of your own home.
I teach French and Spanish for conversation, business, leisure and for qualifications including GCSEs, A levels and Foreign Language Diplomas (e.g. the Diplôme d'etudes en langue française and the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera). I teach English for ESOL qualifications (such as IELTS) and, for native English speakers, I teach GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature. I always tailor lessons to the syllabus of the specific exam board as well as to the specific learning needs of the learner. I also teach English for Academic Purposes.

Thank you for your review. I'm so pleased that you feel so positively about our lessons. You've already made excellent progress - which is thanks in large part to your commitment between lessons but hopefully the relaxed and friendly nature of the lessons also helps!
She is patient, kind, encouraging and professional, Alice has really enjoyed her weekly lesson which has maximised her understanding and learning of this language and this in turn has given her the confidence which has been so lacking.
She mainly had one-to-one lessons but had an extra couple of on-lines too which work better than I had anticipated.
Sharon genuinely cares about her students and should Alice be continuing with Spanish at A Level we would definitely continue with additional tutoring with her.
I have already recommended Sharon to other friends and will continue to do so.
A fantastic tutor. I dropped so lucky finding her!
Sharon is professional, responsive, friendly and fun and our daughter’s confidence has grown so much over the last few months.
We would not hesitate in recommending Sharon.
Thanks !
Paul
