Personal Description:
A native Japanese from Tokyo with the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language. Lived in the UK for over 25 years. Specifically trained to teach non-Japanese learners. Teaching full time as a profession. Fluent in English so that we can discuss about grammar in depth in English. My background is in graphic design but I travelled around New Zealand and Australia before coming to the UK. Through my travel, I met people from many different countries and greatly enjoyed the experience. I live in Kings Norton which is in the south side of Birmingham.
Teaching Experience:
I taught my son Japanese singlehandedly from home without outside help and he got A* for both Japanese GCSE and A level. I take on both adults and students ranging from adults with Japanese connection in business, students who are studying for GCSE/JLPT. Young people who want to live and work in Japan in the future, people who want to watch Japanese anime without subtitles, people who want to visit Japan on holiday and much more. The level of my students range from complete beginners to upper-intermediate. I have also taught groups of children, and a group of adults in a company setting. Both group types had some cultural sessions in which I received excellent feedback.
Teaching Approach:
I am friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated, and am happy to incorporate various aspects of Japan such as culture, anime, food etc. to add depth and insight to enrich your learning experience. I use Skype and online notepad for online lessons, and for both face-to-face and online, I normally issue 'no obligation' weekly homework unless you opt out, from over 30 textbooks and workbooks which I have accumulated over the years. Lessons normally continue throughout the year including school summer holidays and Christmas.

From derek (/5): It's been almost two years as a casual adult learner with Satomi as my teacher. Satomi is patience, informative and engaging teacher making sure I acquire a level of comprehension before learning another new concept. Her well paced teaching style reinforces grammar and literature concepts from textbooks through everyday conversations and homework reviews. Satomi also gives further explanation as to how it is used through a variety of situations and what it means translating it back to English. When I am speaking or writing Japanese, she will rearrange my phrasing to be more understood by a native speaker as well as breaking down grammar concepts to correct my usage along with impromptu exercise drills. Furthermore she will add additional vocabulary around these subjects/talks based on the way I speak and write. Not only does this help me use Japanese more in my self study, it also makes me better at expressing myself. Highly Recommended!
From Steven (/5): I am a casual learner, with a small amount of prior knowledge (of Japanese). I find Satomi's lessons to be very insightful, encouraging and well-paced. She uses memorable visual aids, provides contextual background to why words and Kanji are the way they are, creates stories that help make things like the days of the week more easily memorable, and follows up each lesson with optional homework, which I'm finding to be of great help. If I had the time, I'd have more than one lesson a week. I highly recommend her.

My daughter is very interested in Japanese culture and language and was so happy after every class. We have seen significant improvement. I would recommend Satomi to any parent who wishes to let their child enjoy the language and learn and see quick improvements.

She has a lot of good resources she uses with her teaching and sets homework which means you can study outside of lessons. She is friendly, helpful and fun to talk to. I started as a complete beginner and after a month I couldn’t believe that I was reading a lot of the hiragana sentences provided as homework. Seeing your progress week over week really makes you want to study all the time.
We moved at a pace I was comfortable with and I was provided with a lot of the tools needed to revise in my own time.
Satomi understood my circumstances right away and structured her lessons around my visit to Japan.
I highly recommend Satomi to anybody learning Japanese at any skill level.
