Personal Description:

There are two places left for students to start January 2025.

Are you looking for an experienced Dutch language teacher, a Dutch national and native speaker with a Sociological and Business background?
I have been teaching Dutch in person and online for more than twenty years. Most of my students are from the UK, but also from mainland Europe, Brazil and Middle East. I love what I do because I contribute to your future needs, and am committed to your Dutch language goals and achievements… Some of my students are in love, and want to learn Dutch to participate in conversations and not feel isolated when meeting Dutch friends and family. Others are looking to work in the Netherlands and need to achieve higher levels of Dutch to suit their academic or work environments. In addition, there are also those students who just love learning languages.

Teaching Approach:

My courses are well structured, interactive and communicative. The Beginners Course to A2 level equips students with all the Dutch language skills needed to communicate in everyday situations.

For example, we first focus on the pronunciation of vowel sounds, preposition of place, nationalities and countries, simple present verbs, past verb forms, idiomatic future and describing people and places. You will quickly develop skills in listening, reading, spoken interaction, spoken production and writing the Dutch language. Lessons cover `every day` topics relating to Dutch culture and society.

The Beginners Course is the first step towards achieving the language standards recommended by the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) A2.
At the end of the course students can interact with a degree of fluency and have reached the capacity to express themselves and discuss contrasting viewpoints. At B1 level you will be able to pass the Integration exam. B2 level is suited for working in the Netherlands… Courses on offer:

I would highly recommend starting lessons with her. I feel more confident after every lesson and have progressed more with the language than I ever thought I could.

Ria is great for providing homework and is always happy to help with any problems I have. After some time in her lessons, she managed to pair me up with one of her other students so we could study together in our own time which has been great and really helped us both.

Excellent teacher, very happy I chose her!

From Sumeet (5/5): Ria is a very experienced and skilled teacher who goes through a structured course with patience, and combines her teaching with cultural learning. Her deep knowledge of both English and Dutch languages, and of British and Dutch cultures, have been wonderful to work with as a student. She can often take a Dutch expression - explain it in both the cultures, which is very useful to feel more at ease with Dutch.

Lessons with Ria are relaxed, and a very exciting journey in getting to a point where one can read/write/listen-to and speak in the Dutch language! I highly recommend her!

From Suraiya (5/5): My siblings and I have been learning Dutch with Ria for the past 2 months. We wanted to start learning Dutch so that we can better communicate with our relatives from the Netherlands; Ria tailors our lessons for this goal. The lessons are structured (following a textbook) but she is always willing to bring in extra activities to supplement the content we have learnt. We particularly love how well Ria teaches the 3 of us on skype. The lessons are interactive and engaging and we all get to practice reading, speaking and translating. We have thoroughly enjoyed our lessons and look forward to them each week. We would definitely recommend her to anyone else looking for Dutch lessons.

I have tried online courses such as Rosetta Stone and although I learned a little, nothing compares to having a patient teacher to carefully guide me and make me think for my self. Ria encourages you to think for your self and checks in throughout every lesson make sure your understanding, welcoming questions if you don't. I would fully recommend this talented and kind lady if you are wanting to learn Dutch. I'm quite early on in my lessons but I'm excited to see where I will be in a years time looking at how much I have learnt so far.

I personally felt that Ria payed particular attention to my dyslexia as she gave me extra exercises and spent extra time explaining things which I particularly struggled with. She is more than happy to answer any questions that you have and she will take time to explain so that you fully understand.

She listens to my feedback and helps me throughout the lesson. She is very easy to talk to and I don’t feel too embarrassed when I’m talking with her as I know she is only there to guide and help me rather than laugh at my mistakes. I have a lot of confidence issues when it comes to speaking Dutch with my boyfriend and his family (who all live in the Netherlands) so it is nice to have someone to listen, give feedback and guide me on to a path of speaking Dutch :)

She will always go at your pace and makes every effort to make the course relate to real life scenarios, making it easier to digest. Homework is optional which is allows you to get in extra practice if you have time during the week.

Ria is also very flexible with days and times for lessons and always tries to be accommodating.

Over all I highly recommend Ria as a tutor :)

With Ria you get the complete package, firstly dutch is her first language so she not only knows the language but also knows the manerism and pronunciation perfectly for each word/phrase. The fact her English is perfect helps also as she can help with the translstion of the grammar side of things very well.

Times are flexible and Ria will always try to work around you and not the other way round.

I have enjoyed my lessons so far and look forward to more.
