Personal Description:
I am a 44 year old father of two living in Cheshunt in East Hertfordshire. I am a teacher of several subjects across the areas of languages and music. I love teaching and have a natural ability to impart skills to others and for finding ways of making difficult things easy.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching since finishing my studies over 20 years ago. I have taught privately and in organisations, to individuals and to groups and in the UK and abroad. I have carried out language training courses to organisations such as the UK main office of the Japanese Truck firm Isuzu, to the Taipei water department in Taiwan as well as language schools in the UK and abroad and to individuals both children and adults from reception age to retired individuals. I have travelled and worked extensively in countires of the far east including Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia and Indonesia. I have developed an understanding of the cultures and customs of these places and their people through a variety of work and personal experiences. I worked for an international market research company based in London as a supervisor to the Asia/Pacific department leading market research campaigns for Asian companies. I have also appeard on Japanese **Contact Detail Removed**vision co-hosting a travel documentary/entertainment show with a Japanese comedian. At the UK Isuzu Truck headquarters in Hertfordshire I carried out Japanese language training programs for the senior staff to aid their frequent business trips to the Japanese office. On an individual level I have taken students through their A Level Japanese programs aswell as priming others for up coming travels to the East for work or leisure. In the academic field I have worked as a librarian at the Institute of Oriental Philosophy in Maidenhead cataloguing their large collection of Asian language materials and in central London I worked on a project for the Royal United Services Institute gaining information into Chinese military conditions through Chinese language internet sites. These work projects were backed up by the extensive studies I have done into the region such as Chinese Language and History, Korean Language and Japanese Language and Religions.
Teaching Approach:
My approach to teaching is that it is my role to impart the desired skill entirely to the student instead of simply filling their head with information. I am flexible with how that is achieved as no two students are alike in their aptitudes, experiences and approaches to learning. I offer lots of hands on experience through practice and spontaneous exploration of the materials studied. In other words instead of just looking over information in a book I will always aim to get as close to the real experience of using the language as possible in a way which one simply couldn't get out of just reading a book or watching videos. It will be a complete and emersive experience which will definitely train the student to become capable in the target language.
