Personal Description:

I am native Chinese and have been living in UK for more than 30 years. I studied my BSc. Degree in China and MSc. Degree in UK. I am fluent in Mandarin and can also speak some conversational Cantonese. I have very good bilingual skills and can read and write Chinese and English well.

I have been working in a primary school and secondary school for over 10 years after working in two UK universities for several years, therefore I am very familiar with the education system in UK and I communicate and work very well with children of all ages and abilities, as well as young people and adults. I have had several CPD training, such as Safeguarding for children and Special Educational Needs. I am DBS checked.

I am friendly, responsible, well organized and very patient. I would like to use my bilingual skills and knowledge to teach Chinese language and culture, it would be very rewarding!

Teaching Experience:

I have been an EAL (English as an Additional Language) tutor in a secondary school and I am qualified Teaching Assistant with many years experience in supporting teaching and learning in a primary school.

I have been giving Mandarin lessons to adult learners who are taking teaching jobs in China, and I have also been teaching some children Chinese language over the years. I have experience in tutoring learners for their preparation of GCSE Mandarin Exam and HSK/YCT Tests. I have been an examiner for Speaking Test of GCSE Mandarin Exam.

Teaching Approach:

I can provide one-to-one tutoring to anyone who would like to
• Learn a new language – Chinese (Mandarin), either beginner level or intermedia**Contact Detail Removed**vel,
• brush up on basic vocabulary for a holiday experience or working in China,
• or prepare their GCSE Mandarin exams or HSK tests.

I will tailor my teaching methods to meet each learner’s needs and aims, which can be systematic learning Chinese language and culture in long term (including reading and writing), intensive/short-term refresh your knowledge in Chinese and improve your speaking and listening, or just learning some basic conversations (choosing your own topics if you like) and being knowledgeable about China.

I will usually use text books and online resources for you to learn and practice.

I can also provide online teaching if you prefer. I am quite flexible in teaching time and will be able to manage the time suitable for you.

From Wiktoria (5/5): I recommend Mona to anyone wishing to learn Chinese as she's a very professional teacher and can adapt to anyone's schedule. Mona pays attention to the pronunciation of the words and occassionally talks about Chinese culture which I think is very useful. Although I basically had no prior knowledge of Chinese, my language skills are now improving with every lesson.

From Jenneke (4/5): I really enjoy Mona's lessons. She is open, friendly, easy teaching and the book she uses is very good. There is a great variety in learning new words, grammar rules and excercises. I enjoy the listening and practice excercises made with the cd.
Mona is flexible and dedicated. I would love to be able to express myself in this language, speaking and finding my words in the right order is my big ambition.

From Matthew (5/5): Mona is a very well organised and patient teacher. We study Mandarin for one hour each week. Mona is always prompt and professional, warm and kind. We are complete beginners so Mona has provided us with the right amount of challenge each week to feel like we are making progress, however slowly. The programme we are working through is both useful and easy to follow, with vocabulary and conversations building up each week on the previous session(s). We haven't had much time to do 'homework' but when we are able to devote more time to memorising and practising we feel confident that Mona's teaching will allow us to achieve lasting success.
