Personal Description:
I am a teacher of Spanish and French with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) living in SW London. I hold a B.A.(Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and History from the University of London and I am also qualified to teach ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have lived in London for nearly 20 years now and in all this time I have worked in administration and finance prior to returning to the teaching profession.
Teaching Experience:
Since my return to teaching eight years ago, I have taught French and Spanish up to A level in several secondary schools across London and Surrey, both in the private and state sectors. I have followed specifications from various examination boards -mostly Edexcel and AQA- for both GCSE and AS/A2, therefore I am very familiar with the exam requirements for those courses. I am also an examiner of French GCSE with Edexcel and have tutored privately many students of all ages and levels in the languages mentioned above.
Teaching Approach:
I always try to tailor my lessons to the age and needs of my students, make them as enjoyable and purposeful as possible by using a variety of resources and activities, e.g. games, role plays, laying emphasis on learning for communication purposes. My aim is to help students develop their ability to use the language effectively in everyday situations whilst providing them with a solid foundation in the grammar so that they can produce their own language independently. For me one of the most gratifying aspects of tutoring is to see how much students benefit from it and appreciate your one-to-one input, and how quickly they make progress as a result.

She has been able to lead me through the learning of English from scratch easily.
I'd recommend her to anyone.

We were always very happy to have her in our home, tutoring our daughter for her GCSE Spanish.
Maria is very dedicated and professional, and always polite, punctual and very accommodating.
Languages are not my daughter's strength, primarily due to a lack of confidence.
Maria has worked with her and helped her to achieve an A* grade in her mock GCSE exam, and has worked with her since then to consolidate this for her upcoming GCSE. We recommend her most highly and have been extremely pleased with her work.
