Personal Description:

I am very passionate about teaching Health and Social Care and British Sign Language. Following a change in personal circumstances and becoming a mum in 2021, I have launched my online business Lorraine George BSL Tutoring. I am a naturally kind and caring person. I am a mum which I love and my son is just awesome and inspires me to be the best I can be for him everyday. I have a supportive husband and two fun boxer dogs that are always up to mischief. I have written my first Children's Book 'My Friend Kay'.

Teaching Experience:

I feel fortunate to have worked in health and social care for over 14 years. I have worked in various Health and Social Care roles including Support Worker, Registered Care Manager and Learning Support Assistant within education settings for adults with additional needs.
I completed A-Level Health and Social Care, in the first year it was released and achieved my first ever A grade. Since then, I have had the honour of working alongside and with some amazing colleagues and supported individuals. I have experience in supporting ages from 5 to 92 and with a range of health and care needs. I have supported individuals with a variety of physical disabilities, deteriorating health needs, learning disabilities and many other varying needs. I managed a staff team of 35 people as a registered care manager. This included 9 members of staff that are Deaf and use British Sign Language as their native language. I was successful in the appointment of manager despite not knowing British Sign Language and felt it was inappropriate they were expected to cope without a manager who could effectively communicate with them. This was the start of my mission to learn British Sign Language, the native visual language of the UK. I really enjoyed doing this and during a years personal leave I completed my Level 1 & 2 qualification and I am now passionate about promoting British Sign Language to be a natural part of education and daily life for all living within the UK.
I am also able to offer tuition in phonics and how this develops into the basics of reading and writing the English Language.

Teaching Approach:

I am a very calm person and like to put my learners at ease and find ways of engaging with my learners in a way they find fun and interesting. I adapt my resources and tutoring for each individual to ensure they achieve their goals as quickly and stress-free as possible. I ask students to send me the question or topic they are having difficulty with before the online meeting so that I am fully prepared to help.

I like my lessons to be interactive and engaging and where possible use a range of teaching resources and materials to include but not limited to: books, songs, flashcards and worksheets. I like to get to know my learners so I can make bespoke courses to suit them and their learning journey to help them achieve the very best they can be.

Offering the best level of tuition is very important to me so I have spent time undertaking the following courses alongside my qualifications listed with John Academy: Teaching Assistant Complete Course (TA, SEN, AUTISM, ADHD & DYSLEXIA) and Teaching Online Diploma. These were both completed in 2022.

Alongside tutoring I continue to complete courses and my own learning in my spare time as I love learning and sharing new skills and knowledge with my learners.
