Personal Description:
I have been married to John for 41 years. We have 3 children, now grown up, and 2 small grand daughters.
Teaching Experience:
I studied French and Spanish at Oxford University and subsequently spent 2 years in Chile where I taught a class of 7 year olds and did some ESOL lessons. After returning to England I obtained my PGCE in Primary education and taught for a year at that level. Since then I have taught both French and Spanish at all levels and to all ages, from 5 to 85! For 10 years I was head of languages in a private secondary school. Most recently I have been involved in Adult Education and coaching for GCSE and A level. Since moving to Tiverton in 2014 I have been giving one:one and one:two classes in French and Spanish, to Adults, students and children.
Teaching Approach:
I use a wide range of methods when teaching one to one, as appropriate to the needs of the student. I may use a textbook, work sheets or flash cards; CDs and DVDs; past exam papers and material taken from the internet. I always enjoy using games, pictures, and puzzles to encourage enjoyable interaction and meaningful communication.

From Michael (/5): Really enjoying learning french with Julian. The lessons are a good mix of practice and ensuring I have understood key elements of the french language. I feel it is testament to Julian's lessons, that rather than grow frustrated if I get things wrong sometimes, I generally smile, as I know a friendly and encouraging remark will be made explaining where I have gone wrong. It is also a bonus that there be the possibility to prepare for a GCSE in french in due course. I feel that with Julian's help, I can hopefully blitz this qualification, but also have fun learning french. Thanks and looking forward to next weeks lesson!

It is clear that she spends time preparing each tutor class and in only 4 sessions, my speaking ability and confidence has vastly improved. In addition to being an excellent teacher, Julian is also a very warm and welcoming person which made me feel at ease straight away. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone!
