Personal Description:

I am a very experienced, friendly and flexible teacher. I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language for over 20 years.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching English for Academic Purposes at the University of Hertfordshire. I taught at Oaklands College in St Albans for 6 years. I also taught English in Hong Kong for 5 years. I have taught groups and individuals, from complete beginners to Masters' Level students at university, as well as one-to-one language tuition in-house for business executives. I have prepared students for KET, PET, FCE, Advanced and Proficiency. I have helped many students gain high scores in IELTS, including those who need the exam for visa purposes.

Teaching Approach:

I provide individually-tailored materials and plan lessons and feedback carefully. I believe that the lessons should be fun, but productive.
I am available to teach individuals, small groups or in-house courses. I can design and deliver courses to organisations (rates negotiable).

From Samad (5/5): As an IELTS candidate, I strongly benefited from Helen's advice especially for the writing section. She sent me a number of useful vocabularies for academic writing, which could help me increase my band to 8. Although I did not have enough time to attend the class before the exam, she managed to teach me all the essential and necessary parts in few sessions very well. Beside her teaching skill, I surely admire her social behavior. She is very kind and friendly.
