Personal Description:

Hi! I'm Gary. I'm based in Norwich. I hold the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) at N3 level. This is an upper intermediate qualification that requires an understanding of approximately 3,750 Japanese vocabulary words and the ability to understand and participate in everyday conversations. Teaching Experience:

I have taught in Turkey, Oxford, London, Norwich and Japan, both in a classroom setting, in small groups, one-to-one and online.

Teaching Approach:

I can teach online or in person. I enjoy teaching, and I know that everyone learns in a different way. I hope that I am always patient and encouraging. Personal rapport is of the greatest importance, and learning can't take place if the learner feels forced or doesn't feel able to ask questions. In the best case, learning should always be enjoyable and fun. Learners must feel that they have something to contribute to the subject and that their insights are valuable.
I feel that students are more likely to engage when:
They are presented with open-ended questions rather than 'putting you on the spot' ones;
The teacher shows them respect and support, especially when they make mistakes;
Learning is recognised as an often challenging process, which students deserve commendation for undertaking;
Feedback is frequent.
