Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Eva and my job and my passion is teaching.I was born and educated in Hungary but got married in the UK.
I am a native Hungarian speaker and a fully qualified English and Hungarian teacher with a Bachelor's degree.
Teaching Experience:
I have been working as a teacher for more than 20 years. My students' age ranges from 6 to 65 so it is never too late to start!
I was teaching languages for primary and secondary school students and also to adults. I love giving one-to-one tutoring because this is where teaching can be most efficient in my view. By teaching individually, students' needs and goals can be fully considered and I can adjust my lessons accordingly.
Teaching Approach:
My approach is communicative language teaching.Of course you have to learn the words and some basic grammar rules but my main idea is using the target language in conversation even at the very early stages.
Ill also make sure that you enjoy the lesson because I know that if you have fun you are at ease and you are not worrying that much about making mistakes. I always encourage my students to "play" with the language, to take risks and say things even when they are not sure that their sentence is correct! Why? It's simple: this is the only way to make progress! This is the way kids learn their mother tongue! You will never get better if you "play safe" and you only say things of which you know for sure that they are correct.

I think her style of teaching helps ensure you learn the most important things for communicating first and foremost and she gives you lots of opportunity to converse in Hungarian during your lessons, starting from simple question and answer and eventually progressing to more in depth conversations, she is great at finding your limits and making sure lessons feel challenging, but never impossible.
She makes sure you not only learn the grammatical rules, but practice them in speech as you learn, which I think has helped me commit to them to memory far quicker than I would have otherwise.
I would thoroughly recommend Eva to anyone interested in learning Hungarian!

From Jane (/5): I am very pleased to be able to comment on Eva /Cookson's style of teaching. I am an absolute beginner who has been learning Hungarian now for one year. Under Eva's instruction I am now able to construct basic sentences both written and spoken. I appreciate being taught by a native speaker - because I enjoy learning about Hungarian society and culture as well as the nuances of the vocabulary. I have been reluctant to speak (I am more comfortable writing) - but Eva has been very patient in encouraging me to read aloud (to improve my pronunciation) and engage in conversation. I have also appreciated the method of instruction - working through a workbook with a very structured approach to grammar. This is exactly as I like to approach language learning. The pace set by Eva is exactly right for me. Because I am learning Hungarian as a hobby - we can go slowly (which is what i need) with plenty of revision. I would recommend Eva to anyone who wanted to learn Hungarian with a teacher who is able to tailor the teaching style and content to the individual needs of a student.
