Personal Description:

Hello! I’m Elise, a TEFL-certified tutor with over 10 years of experience teaching mainly Swahili to learners of all levels. As a native Swahili speaker from Tanzania, I also have a deep understanding of the Swahili culture and dialects, and I am very familiar with the language and culture of Kenya as well since that is where I went to school.

I have a passion for languages, and I enjoy learning new ones myself. In addition to Swahili and English, I have a basic knowledge of French and Korean and know some basic Japanese and Thai. This experience in learning languages helps me understand the challenges that language learners face, and I use that to tailor my lessons to fit each student's unique needs and learning style.

I’m not only a tutor, but also a freelance language service provider. I manage my own language consulting company and have worked with a variety of agencies, institutions, and individuals, offering language services such as translation, transcription, and consulting.

I Offer Swahili Lessons, Cultural Insights, Flexible Teaching Approach, and Language Learning Tips.

Teaching Approach:

As a passionate Swahili tutor, I believe in tailoring lessons to fit each student’s individual learning style and level of knowledge. I take time to get to know my students—understanding both their language proficiency and personality—so that I can design lessons that are engaging and effective. For students with prior language learning experience, I welcome their input on what teaching methods have worked best for them in the past.

My Approach:

Personalized Lessons: I start by having conversations with students to gauge their level of knowledge and preferences, ensuring that I create lessons that cater to their unique needs and learning styles.

Engaging Materials: I use flashcards to help with vocabulary retention, as well as short stories and images that make learning fun and memorable.

Audio Resources: I create free downloadable mp3 audio recordings for pronunciation practice and supplementary learning. These resources make it easier for students to practice at their own pace.

Interactive Learning: Regular homework, pop quizzes, and tests keep students engaged and help ensure steady progress.

Reading for Comprehension: I encourage students to read Swahili novels—many of which I have personally recorded—and answer questions to improve comprehension and critical thinking skills.

By combining various materials, including audio resources, interactive activities, and personalized lessons, I help students gain fluency and confidence in their Swahili writing and language skills. Let’s work together to make learning Swahili an enjoyable and rewarding experience!
