Personal Description:
I am a dedicated and experienced Mandarin Chinese teacher and I can teach both traditional and simplified characters. Teaching is my passion! I consider myself to be very organised, conscientious and attentive to details, esp. in correcting students’ mistakes in assignments and exams.
I was born and brought up in Taiwan, then came to the UK for Higher Education. I am also British now.
Teaching Experience:
At this moment I teach at ARM also work as a freelance Mandarin Chinese teacher/tutor. I taught A level and IGCSE Chinese at Cambridge Centre for Sixth-form Studies (now part of the Stephen Perse Foundation) in Sept. 2017-June 2019. I was a private tutor for students, graduates and teaching staff at Cambridge Uni. from 2014 to 2018. I taught Mandarin for Babel Language & Cultural training in Cambridge in Feb.- May 2015. From Sept. 2013 to July 2014 I taught Mandarin at the Stephen Perse Foundation (Pre-prep, Junior & Senior Schools), Cambridge. I have been an assistant examiner for Cambridge Assessment International Education since June 2014. Moreover, I have worked as a private Chinese tutor (including on-line) intermittently since 2005.
Before settling down in the UK at the end of 2011, I taught Chinese at the University of Iceland and at Icelandic senior high schools (15-20 yrs old). In addition, I have also taught a short Mandarin course for adopted Chinese children (5-8 yrs old) and their parents at the Uni. of Iceland. The students I have taught have been aged 2 to 70. I was also in charge of the Mandarin Placement Tests (4 levels in total) for all the Icelandic senior high schools from 2009 to 2012.
I have taught Chinese as a Foreign Language to ab initio learners many times in Iceland and Cambridge, either at schools, institutions or as a private tutor. I have always worked in the Education sector and I have been a teacher since I was 20. First, I taught English in Taiwan, then Chinese language, Western Art History and Chinese Art & Symbolism in Iceland. Now in England, I am teaching Chinese again.
Teaching Approach:
I always adjust my teaching methods to suit individual needs. I use internet, mobile phone and story books for teaching apart from textbooks.
Testimonial: 'Chia-Jung (Nora) was outstanding as a tutor for my teenage son. She managed to get through the igcse syllabus very quickly with him and I am confident that he will get a good mark in his exam. She was always punctual, absolutely trustworthy, reliable, and polite. She developed a great rapport with my son who enjoyed her teaching and conversation immensely. I would absolutely recommend her as a tutor to anyone.'–––––––––––Frank
