Personal Description:

I love languages, especially French. I have two primary school aged children and I work around them, plus they are both learning some French with me. I also teach French in nurseries and primary schools, as well as having students who I tutor for GCSE and primary age private students.
I also enjoy watching films, reading and baking (including French recipes).

Teaching Experience:

I have over 20 years experience teaching 11-16 year olds in high school. During this time I have taught across the age ranges up to GCSE. I have attended training on GCSE teaching and I have carried out speaking tests for the current AQA GCSE (ending 2025). I also worked closely with colleagues who marked for the exam board to learn more about what they are looking for in writing and speaking exams.
In 2021 I also became part of a franchise and through this I began running French classes in nurseries and after-school clubs on primary schools. I now also have some primary aged private students, where the emphasis is very much on having fun learning languages.
From September 2023 I left my permanent teaching post and I have undertaken supply teaching and this has enabled me to do more tutoring. I have long term students who are working towards GCSE French, on of whom has started French from scratch with me. I have also done short term 1:1 revision sessions in the run up to the GCSE exams.

Teaching Approach:

My focus is tailoring the sessions to the needs of the learner. For younger children the focus is on learning through fun activities and songs, to make languages fun. As children get older I maintain a balance between the 4 skill areas of listening, reading, speaking and writing, while covering topics in a way which will interest them. For GCSE the focus is on building the skills to tackle the exams, ensuring that the student can get the most marks from their area of strength, but also looking at the tricks and traps used in the exam to help students access the more difficult skills in the exam.
