Personal Description:
I am inquisitive and like to know how things run, what the options are and how they can be controlled. That does not extend to people I hasten to say! I like sorting out problems and I am persistent when faced with a tough challenge.
I would describe myself as cheerful and understanding, fully aware of how frustrating computing can be at times. I am ready to advise, train and support in the use of the most commonly used applications in Microsoft Office and in all versions of Windows. I am a keen photographer so I have experience in using Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop.
Training Experience:
Trained as a Scientist, I have always played an active part in handling computers. From an early introduction with a Sinclair ZX 81 computer and a BBC Model B, I developed some skills in Basic programming. The seeds of this had been planted in an IT course unit at University. I found that I had above average understanding of IT and its use in education whilst on courses. At La Sainte Union College, Southampton, I received a distinction and again for my MA degree at Reading University a distinction.
As Head of ICT at the school where I work, I built the Windows Active Directory, Server based network there. I also did this at my previous school. I have run the networks after building them, maintaining them and supporting a large number of users with their computers along with cable and network infrastructure. Software support has been an integral part of this.
Training Approach:
I feel it is vital to listen carefully to the needs of my tutees, making sure that I give them the tools to achieve their goals. Whilst doing this I will also provide tips and tricks for greater productivity. My goal will be to give a great sense of achievement and autonomy with a knowledge of what can be done and a confidence that will enable success.
