Personal Description:
I work as a systems engineer for a UK-based engineering firm, where my primary focus is software and systems engineering for machine learning projects.
I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree in mathematical physics and quantum information science.
The language with which I am most familiar is Python, though I do work in others (C/C++, assembly, PHP, HTML/CSS, SQL, etc.) and can always offer advice on general programming principles, which is honestly the hard part of coding. The real skill is developing computational thinking and my strong background in mathematics, physics, and coding have certainly given me that. I take a holistic approach to learning which means I care as much about theory and deep understanding as I do about practical results - each one serves to enhance and support the other.
Training Experience:
Tutored mathematics and physics for several years. Work currently as a software developer and actively involved in all three fields through my own hobbies.
Training Approach:
I always prefer it if the student has specific questions, as we can quickly narrow down where difficulties may lie. That said, as a former student, I remember all too well that when we're stuck we often don't even know what questions to ask! In those cases, I like to work through example projects to identify conceptual sticking points. I will always help on homework and exam preparation, but there too I like to attack the conceptual problems as much as the specific question, which can often involve quite large diversions but will improve understanding in the long run.
