Personal Description:

Hi, Andi here - my main disciplines with computers are - installation and understanding of peripherals (printers, scanners, cameras, etc), especially simplifying set-up and making their operation easy to understand - also making the whole experience more than just being able to type a letter and play solitaire, such a waste of a very useful 'gadget'.

Training Experience:

I have been passing on my IT knowledge for about 12 years now, from simply setting up systems to tutoring Word Processing, Spreadsheet and database packages. I also give students confidence to use their PC for more that the basic things, without the fear of loss or damage to files or equipment, by the hands on approach - the PC does not bite, unless you remain in awe of it. I am also versed in Home networking - setting up internet AND assisting when it goes wrong - some of the Help Lines do not HELP, do they? Structuring lessons to suit individual requirements is often enough to allow you to understand the whole picture and your part in it.

Training Approach:

Asking the right questions before purchasing computer equipment can save a lot of grief later on. What do I wish to do with this machine, write a novel or take on the world at the fastest PC game known to man - both require completely different specifications. Too many PC packages bought today far exceed the needs of the user, to the extent that the machine sits in the corner and languishes for long periods. If purchasing that wireless 'dongle' appears to be a 'white elephant', it may simply be the instructions are too much for you, until you understand the interaction required. Simple explanation whilst assisting with the solution is often of more benefit than, "Oh, you just plug it in and follow the screen!" Structured lessons can make all the difference, too.

Distance is not a problem for me, but the transport costs need to be considered when quoting for any work enquired about.
