Personal Description:

I grew up in Cornwall and attended Falmouth Art school where my love of the Arts flourished. Then went on to complete a Degree in 3D Silversmithing and Jewellery design at Loughborough College of Art. Moved away from Cornwall after my Post graduate teacher training to begin the first 9 years of my teaching career. Although I had an extremely rewarding and successful teaching career in the UK, I needed and was ready for new challenges and experiences. I love to travel and so felt teaching within the International school system was a perfect career choice. My International teaching career began in Bangkok, Thailand where I taught for 4 years. Initially in a Creative Arts school for a year and later as the Head of whole school Art and Design in a small International School in central Bangkok. My most recent position was with the British International school in Shanghai, China. Although I enjoyed teaching Internationally I felt it was time to return to the UK and reconnect with Teaching here. So moved back to reconnect with my roots here in Cornwall.

Teaching Experience:

The first 9 years of my career were spent in the UK, teaching the British Curriculum from KS3 to GCSE and A Levels. I began teaching in a large inner city Secondary School where I taught for 5 years, initially as an Art and Design class teacher, then as Head of Department. In Thailand I taught initially in a Creative Arts school and later as the Head of whole school Art and Design. Responsibilities included Form tutor/ Mentor to the Years 11 students. My most recent position was with the British International school in Shanghai, China. The opportunity to teach IB Visual Arts HL/SL was the main reason for joining the school. During my teaching career I have had the opportunity to teach all aspects of Art and Design from primary to IB Higher Level.

Teaching Approach:

As a Head of Art Department my role was to provide academic direction and leadership to increase student motivation, awareness and understanding of the Arts by providing an engaging, creative learning environment. The experiences I have gained through teaching abroad have been life changing and career enhancing. Educating students from a plethora of countries, cultures and backgrounds has given me invaluable facets to my skills, experience and has made me an extremely versatile educator. I always strive to inspire students and provide a caring, understanding teaching environment.
