Personal Description:

I am a published author and creative writing teacher. I have had three historical fiction books published, a memoir as well as many short stories, poems and non fiction articles. Writing is my passion and I have been writing since I was a young child, encouraged by a fantastic teacher who I hope I am now emulating! I am also an avid reader and love to help young people discover exciting literature and spark conversation around what they're reading. As such, I have also run 'reading' classes, which involve reading together a mutually-chosen book around which I have devised conversation prompts and creative writing activities. I firmly believe that reading and writing and two sides of the same coin and to become a competent writer, reading is so important too.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked for Simply Learning Tuition for many years, a London-based tutor company, helping young people who either struggle with their writing or for strong writers who want to work on a longer piece of work or take their writing to the next level. I have also worked with dyslexic children.

In the past I have taught students aged between 5 and 19, but I have also run writing workshops for adults, so am open to teaching all ages. I have taught for around 12 years, starting with an after-school creative writing club for kids called Magic Pencil which has evolved into one-on-one online classes as well as classroom settings around the world via Microsoft Teams.

Teaching Approach:

I have a fun and engaging approach to teaching creative writing, helping each individual student to become the best writer they possibly can be through dynamic, interactive, creative activities. Many people think they 'aren't good' at writing or creative writing; it's my firm belief that - given the right encouragement and direction - everybody is able to write.

Lessons normally last for an hour which works well for under-18's, but for adults, workshop settings or other requirements, I am fine to go beyond this.
