Personal Description:

Nigel offers beginners classes in drawing and painting and also classes for improvers in all media, including oil painting, watercolours and pastels. He believes that anyone can learn to draw and offers step by step instruction for complete beginners. Nigel's work has been widely exhibted and he is enthusiastic in working in different media, although his favourite medium is oil paint and his favourite subject is portraiture.

Teaching Experience:

Nigel has been teaching since 1986 and has run many successful adult classes in the Norfolk/Suffolk area. He has also taught on Further education and Degree courses, and has helped countless students improve their drawing skills. Other classes have been as resident artist for Rowan Holidays and also running art classes on cruise ships.

Teaching Approach:

Nigel believes that understanding how to draw is the fundemental tool to improve craft skills in art. Over the years he has developed a step by step method of teaching drawing that allows almost anyone to learn how to improve their skills in observational drawing techniques. He believes that drawing and painting should be available to anyone who wants to learn and take up a creative hobby or even a career in art and design. His approach to teaching is to work one to one with a student and develop their skills in accordance with what they want to achieve.

From Glenn (5/5): I will not start my tuition with Nigel until May 2018.

From Dennis (5/5): I asked Nigel for some specific help because I hadn't any confidence to draw/sketch. I knew there must be some techniques he could teach me, which he did, in 3 x 2 hour one-two-one sessions. Nigel taught me how to look at things differently to see what I wasn't seeing which opened up a completely new world for me to explore, how to feel better about myself and, after a very short period of time made the actual difference I was looking for.

I didn't want to become an expert sketcher because my area of art is tactile-texture with acrylics, I wanted to gain the mental tools and physical skills which have eluded me for 63 years - Nigel achieved that. Nigel has a perfect, calm, warm and supportive personality with me as his focus, I can't thank Nigel enough for what he has taught me so far in his very professional and inexpensive way. I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone who want to either improve any level of artistic skills from the very bottom, like me, to a very high standard. Most importantly though, Nigel fitted in my tuition very quickly (first contact the next day) and completely around my lifestyle too.

Due to having had a recent operation and recently being asked to help some other people in a few weeks time, I won't have the need to use Nigel's tuition for several months to come but I know I can call upon him again as and when I need him, which I certainly will. Here is a very BIG thank you, Nigel, I hope you get to help a lot more people because I know they will benefit greatly like I have. Dennis. Dennis W Read.
