Personal Description:
I was trained in screen-printed textiles at Glasgow School of Art and since then I have worked as a teacher and self employed artist, designer and maker in a range of surface textile (printing, stitching) and mixed-media techniques including collage, printing, painting and drawing onto fabric and paper. I exhibit regularly, both solo and group exhibitions and have taken part in North East Open Studios (NEOS) for the past couple of years.
Teaching Experience:
I taught for many years, firstly as lecturer and then as curriculum Leader in Art and Design at Orkney College UHI in areas including Textiles, Mixed-media, Printmaking and Jewellery from non-precious materials and our 1 year Portfolio course saw many students gaining access to Degree level institutions across Scotland. I have experience of teaching at both FE and at Degree level and oversaw (with Moray College UHI) the introduction of Degree courses to Orkney College. I have taught night classes, groups of school pupils as well as children and adults with supported needs, Since moving to Moray I have continued to teach workshops in textiles and printmaking both here and in Southern Spain as well as volunteering at our local primary school to support art lessons and the afterschool craft club.
Teaching Approach:
I am passionate about the ‘craft’ of making and enjoy teaching design and technical skills in informal, hand’s on workshop sessions. I can tailor teaching to suit individual participants, support school pupils in core curriculum and adults in on-going project work as well as teaching one-off individual sessions in textiles, printing and generat art and design. Clear guidence, support and feedback will be given but sessions will allow exploration of personal creativity and allow participants to make mistakes and learn from them and most importantly to have fun in their learning.
