Personal Description:
I am an EFL teacher, which has taken me to Tuscany, The Czech Republic and Poland. My poetry is widely published in the UK and my first collection, **Removed By Admin** was published in 2013. My pamphlet,**Removed By Admin**, which documents life in a Yorkshire hotel, was a winner of the 2010 Templar Poetry Pamphlet and Collection competition. As a translator, my versions of the Taiwanese poet Ami have appeared in Modern Poetry in Translation, and my collection of her work **Removed By Admin**t was published with facing Chinese and English texts in 2013. I am interested in collaboration between artists in different disciplines and in translation, particularly the work of Christopher Logue and Ted Hughes. In 2012, I toured **Removed By Admin**, performing on guitar and reading poetry, at venues across the UK including the Latitude festival.
“Restrained, attentive and wise, Matt ’s poems flash light into a world of work and hurried lives which remain a closed book to many poets.”
Alison Brackenbury,
Teaching Experience:
I am a Poetry Practitioner on the **Removed By Admin**t, teaching creative writing at care homes across the south west, and Creative Learning Leader **Removed By Admin**, improving literacy levels in schoolchildren aged 9 - 11 through creative writing. I have run writing workshops in London, York and Derbyshire, both at adult **Contact Detail Removed**s and at my home. I have read my work at venues across the country including the Troubadour, Keats House and the Essex Poetry festival, and given readings, talks and workshops at the likes of Bath Spa University, the University of Central Lancaster and Goldsmiths College, University of London. I have over ten years' teaching experience and my teaching was appraised as 'outstanding' in a recent observation at South Thames College.
Teaching Approach:
I believe it is my job to make sure students leave a lesson or class with several pieces of new work, as well as a variety of exercises to pursue. I also believe in close workshopping to develop critical faculties and editing skills. I practise what I preach and bring a wide experience of attending courses with the Arvon Foundation, Poetry School and Goldsmiths College to inform my own teaching.

Matt comes well prepared, every session is well planned to maximise the use of lesson time.
Matt has done a great job and is still supporting our son to achieve his potential, he has made studying for our son an enjoyable task during his week rather than a frightening and boring task.
Matt would be great in general English enrichment, we approached Matt to support us in the 11+ preparation and we will keep it going.
Matt engages the student making it interesting and fun.
Our son is always looking forward to the next lesson with passion.
