Teaching Experience:
Julie (BA Hons, PGCE) has worked for 17 years in further education and art college. She has exhibited her own artwork extensively, both nationally and internationally. Julie is the founder of Portfolio Oomph – getting you into art college. Portfolio Oomph has been developed to help with art college applications and has successfully guided many students onto some of the country's most competitive colleges and courses. Julie's passion and mission is assisting students in creating a successful art portfolio for university.
Julie has been at both ends of the system; helping students creating an art portfolio for university as well as interviewing applicants for entry to Edinburgh College of Art for 9 years. She led the student recruitment activity at Edinburgh College of Art (2006 – 9) which involved advising many prospective students and their parents about applying to art college and creating an art portfolio for university.
Teaching Approach:
If you’re looking for support and you live in Scotland we offer mentoring / private art lessons in Edinburgh on a face to face basis. If you are further afield we can work by Skype, email and telephone.
>>WHAT DO WE DO? Together, we establish a focused, personal development plan. Usually ideas are at the core of what we explore and by engaging in what a student is interested in, techniques can be used as the vehicle. We can support Higher and Advanced Higher students in adding to their curriculum for their art college portfolio.
>>HOW DO WE DO IT? After an initial hour long meeting Portfolio Oomph establishes a contract that sets out your requirements from Portfolio Oomph. This details our interpretation of your requirements and the support that we can offer. Importantly, we provide some action points for you to get started on a more focused path. It also sets out the arrangements for meeting which can be flexible for example: on an ongoing, regular basis or just as and when you feel you need support.
Mentoring through our private art lessons is a developmental partnership through which we share our knowledge, skills, information and perspective. We use this to foster the creative growth of students through our mentoring and art classes Edinburgh.
Mentoring is about us helping you to achieve something; more specifically, something that is important to you – getting into art college. We empower you to move forward with confidence towards what you want to achieve.
