Personal Description:
I am a photographer and artist and in 2019 I was shortlisted for the RPS international 162 and in 2020 I was selected for AND, an annual selection of some of the best up and coming influential documentary and portrait photographers. My largest, and still on-going, body of work Terrain Vague has been reviewed and featured by established online art platforms such as Boooooom, Fotoroom and Broad magazine to name a few, this project was formulated during my time on the photography MA at UWE. Since graduating this year I have had a smaller body of work published by Another Place Press which is now available in both the UK and the US.
Alongside my personal artwork I have been commissioned by the **Contact Detail Removed**graph and the Sunday Times to make both portrait and fashion images for main feature stories. This has lead to independent commissions such as photographing upcoming designer Daniel P Tanner’s Spring Summer 2020 collection where I was asked to bring my personal photographic style to his fashion collection, producing a narrative lead series of landscape and fashion images.
Teaching Experience:
I have had the pleasure of lecturing in Universities about my practice and one to one with students who have reached out to me. Photography is unlike other art forms as it is both scientific and mechanical as well as creative and conceptual. Working to understand these roots through discussion and critique is where I find the most is learned.
Teaching Approach:
Having developed a strong artistic identity and thematic narrative in my own practice I hope to be able to give students an insight into how to create a body of work and how to develop their creative practice as a whole. I am able to work with each student individually to aid them with both their academic assignments and also their own personal interests in photography in its creative or commercial form.
To help each student reach their goal I can set out a structured lesson based around;
Creative crits - This is where I can help the student constructively discuss their work/project and focus on its development. This directed time will allow the student to build confidence in their practice and become open to subjective interpretation, constructive criticism and artist references for research. The purpose of this time is to help build their linguistic skills and allow them to think contextually about their work. This time will help generate new ways of thinking and avenues of research for the student to work on, strengthening their knowledge of the subject matter and production of coherent work.
Academic assignments - If a student is struggling with an assignment from their institution I can help them break down what is being asked of them and provide references from which they can begin their research. I can help read through their module handbook and pick out the key goals and tasks provided in order to form a clearer understanding of what is being asked of them. I can also help with generating ideas through suggested readings and artist references.
