Information About Jacqueline - Battle teacher

Personal Description:

I have a First in English Literature from Sheffield University and The Gibbons Prize for the Best First Class Degree in the Faculty of Arts. I practiced as a litigation lawyer before starting a family and now really enjoy tutoring Creative Writing, English Language and Literature.

It was a passion for books that brought me to English tutoring — I hope all students do well in their exams, but I also want them to 'want to' read books in their free time.

I also run an after-school arts club for a delightful local primary school and have a CACHE Level 3 Award in Childcare and Education (VRQ) (Distinction).

Teaching Experience:

I have been an English and Writing Tutor for young people for two years. I also run creative writing correspondence courses for the Duke of Edinburgh Skills requirement.

I am very happy to work with home-schooled families who would like to incorporate creative writing into their curriculum or start working towards the GCSE Language exams.

Teaching Approach:

I structure sessions around the interests and aims of the student, and they can include discussion of different genres, styles of writing and writing tips. I always set creative tasks on which I offer feedback and guidance; to me, this is the most valuable aspect of creative writing tutoring as having an interested 'reader' is both inspiring and satisfying.

There are many health benefits to creative writing, and it can become a hobby (or career) for life, but sadly the school curriculum does not allow much time for it, especially at senior school, even though the GCSE language exams include a significant amount of creative writing.
