Personal Description:
I am an MLitt student at St Andrews specialising in poetry and playwriting. I have published two poems and am currently in talks to publish my play about Dylan Thomas, "The Boathouse."
Teaching Experience:
Since the second year of my BA I have led workshops and classes in creative writing for the TCD Literary Society, the St Andrews Inklight Group, and the StAnza festival.
Teaching Approach:
In creative writing I place great emphasis on reading as much as writing. For each creative writing class, whether it be prose, poems or plays, I would ask the tutee to read a text and identify aspects of it that work (framing devices, assonance, juxtaposition) and try to copy that in an assignment of their own, to be finished before our session. Our session would then focus on discussions of both the text, and feedback on how to improve their own work. I will also give writing tips and exercises ad hoc as necessary.
