Personal Description:

I am a writer, educator, activist and nature-lover from Northern Ireland, who has been obsessed with poetry for decades. I have penned hundreds of poems and been published in anthologies, as well as featuring in a UK-wide feminist literary exhibition. I blog regularly on current affairs and won the Joan Lingard Prize for short story writing. A number of my essays have been published in magazines and online.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught and tutored English Language and English Literature for 25 years. I have recently begun teaching creative writing to adults and have a special interest in poetry and short story teaching, as these are my own areas of practice. I have taught children and adults both in-person and online. I can offer one-to-one or group sessions, depending on what is required.

Teaching Approach:

Students will find me warm, friendly and knowledgeable. I love teaching and adore creative writing, so am keen to provide practical help and advice, as well as encouragement and inspiration. For absolute beginners, it is important to understand poetic craft, literary techniques, structure, form, voice, character, meaning and consider examples and what makes them work. For intermediate learners and more advanced learners, I like to assess what stage you are at with your writing skills and what you need from me, so that I can design lessons, which are tailored specifically to you.
