Personal Description:
Hello there!
My name is Avena and I am a professional actor and acting tutor. I am originally from Ireland and based in North London. I've lived in London for 10 years now. I have an ADV Dip from the London School of Dramatic Art and a BA from Drama Centre London, graduating in 2015. I am represented by Michelle Braidman Associates, and am excited to work more in the field of tuition and coaching, at all levels.
Teaching Experience:
I have a range of experience of working with young children, students and young actors applying to Drama School.
I have worked for 2 and a half years with Children who have special needs and mainstream kids in primary schools across London, on a part-time and short- term contract basis. I have Cover-Supervised in schools across North London. I was a member of 4 different teaching agencies to this purpose.
I have worked with Entertainment companies such as Bakehouse Factory, bringing Interactive, fun-filled educational experiences to children aged 4-14 in shopping centres around the UK- Liverpool, Ilford, Chichester etc. I have also done Children's parties on a freelance basis.
I have worked privately with solo students applying for Drama Schools, on a freelance and on-going basis.
I am just starting to work in smaller drama schools with groups of actors, and most recently was movement and text director for a production of Medea with Wretched Strangers ensemble, which went to the Brighton Fringe, London Fringe, and Camden Fringe.
I am applying to be a LAMDA examiner, further details to come.
I am fully DBS checked and can provide references if required.
Teaching Approach:
I seek to have a warm and intuitive approach to acting, and believe first and foremost in exciting and motivating students to take an active interest and curiosity in their work and the world around them- essential for budding actors. I believe in tailoring my classes to the individual in accordance with both their needs and a parents requirements, and would always wish to have an open dialogue about where I feel I could best serve the students progress. Depending on what a student wishes to work for, I am very happy to select material that I believe would inspire them, or support them in their search. I believe in confidence building and creating a happy "actors at play" environment, where students feel happy and safe to take risks, as well of course, as maintaining safety and security in their environment.
