Personal Description:
I taught Art, Design and Technology as the Specialist teacher at the local Preparatory School. There I was keen to introduce exciting, innovative projects to inspire and enthuse pupils. I have also worked at Secondary level teaching Art and Design and Technology from Year 7 to A level standard, advising and encouraging students to achieve their maximum creative potential . My experience as a Theatre Designer has proved invaluable in being able to work in two and three dimensions and approach design projects with originality. In my spare time I enjoy drawing and painting and have a small craft business where I paint personalised wooden gifts such as boxes, picture frames and mementos. Prior to becoming a teacher I worked as a Theatre Designer designing and producing sets, costumes and large props in London and regional theatres.
Teaching Experience:
As well as teaching for the last twenty four years at Primary and Secondary level I have tutored Art and Textiles privately to Primary, GCSE and A level students . I enjoy meeting new people and I am keen to enthuse them with my passion, understanding and enjoyment of Art and Design and believe that there is no more rewarding experience than seeing a student reach their full potential.
Teaching Approach:
On introduction to the student I am keen to look through their work, discuss what their aims and wishes might be whilst assesssing how the student might achieve their best possible grade. I am sensitive to the need to encourage and am flexible in my approach to enable the best outcome for the student. For the younger tutee I like to find out what their interests are and tailor creative activties for them to encourage and further develop their understanding, skills and enjoyment. These activities might be as varied as printing, Batik and working in clay, as well as the more traditional skills of drawing and painting. I am happy to teach at my home and am also willing to travel to the students house, I can provide the appropiate materials as required.
