Information About Alice - Huddersfield teacher

Personal Description:

I am a cheerful and enthusiastic individual with a passion for textiles. I currently work as a seamstress within bridalwear and have experience in dressmaking. I love researching history and incorporating this into my designs, looking at technique , fabrics and design and developing a design style fitting for that project. I have specialised in embroidery whilst at University and so can bring these skills into the lessons.

Teaching Experience:

I am working within the industry of dressmaking and alterations and have mentored first year students whilst at University. I have studied Art at GCSE level, textiles and photography at A Level and I graduated from University in 2016 with a 1st degree in Costume Design with Textiles, and am keen to assist students in approaching their studies in these areas so they can also gain the excitement I have for the subject.

Teaching Approach:

I have a fun and practical style learning which helps break down any daunting project into smaller manageable tasks. Organisation is key to any project and I can assist in generating ideas for the project and then developing the students individual style and interpretation. I like to use painting, drawing, and sculpture within the development process of a project to help generate ideas, these techniques are there to engage with the student, and keep then excited about the subject. There are abstract and detailed to textiles techniques that I will teach the students incorporating my embroidery skills I learnt whilst in education. I can also teach basic sewing skills if required. I believe that textiles and costume design can open a lot of doors for students and it would be a wonderful opportunity to impart my knowledge of the subject onto others.
