Personal Description:
I am a qualified Chemical Engineer with over 15 years experience in Maths, Physics and Chemistry tuition. I have been involved in a number of teaching and tutoring programmes since 2006, from tutoring University undergraduates, to voluntary tutoring in Khayelitsha, and from 2010 in 1-on-1 tutoring at various levels. I also offer assistance for GMAT and SAT preparation.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been tutoring individual learners from high school level to university level in Maths, Physics and Chemistry over 15 years including students from UCT, UNISA, Wits and UJ. I was a teaching assistant for 5 years at the University of Cape Town as well as the University of Witwatersrand.
Tutoring Approach:
I allow the student highlight their problem areas and then we go into the tutoring differently as each student has different needs. However with all students, the student has to do the bulk of the work, and I encourage the student to work on the problems with my guidance/input as the idea is not to give students the answers but rather to empower them to be able to get to solutions on their own, working on building their confidence in their abilities as well.

Tawanda goes over and above expectation. He has helped us in between tutoring sessions out of his own free time and really dedicates himself to his pupils.
Not only is he patient and very skilled at explaining complex concepts (Grade 12 maths and science), but he is a genuinely caring person - the perfect mix!
Tawanda has gone above and beyond in recommending additional study aids that have been very helpful and also assisting in designing study and revision time tables. He is and exceptional tutor and I am SO grateful we found him!
I came to Tawanda in a pre-exam panic and each meeting we went over past-papers that I had attempted before hand, and had sent him my workings. Each lesson I left feeling calm and with a clear mind on what my next step of revision would be.
The only problems we had were technological issues, and if it were not for the pandemic I think I would have preferred in person meetings as we were covering physics which can be hard to follow without visuals.
I highly enjoyed my time with Tawanda and will definitely recommend him to any high school or university students.
