Personal Description:
I inspire passion. I build connections. I cultivate curiosity. I nurture improvement.
I pride myself on being a generalist with a passion for education. This generalist approach means that I have a broad range of knowledge - from business studies to biology - and my passion is knowing how to apply specialised knowledge within the big picture.
I have spent most of my career in retail banking, but have continued to seek out environments where I can create engaging and meaningful learning experiences. This has recently led me to become a certified management and neuroscience coach, and I am currently studying towards recovery coaching and advance TEFL certifications.
Tutoring Experience:
I tutored first year anthropology while I was completing my honours at Wits University. I found that experience extremely fulfilling, and, during my 15 years in retail banking, I have since been drawn to roles that allow me to mentor, research, and share knowledge, while helping to make problems more manageable by breaking them down into their component parts.
This passion led me down the coaching and instruction path, with the goal of taking these skills into tutoring and general educational pursuits.
Tutoring Approach:
My broad perspective enable me to present complex concepts in an accessible way, which I believe will empower learners to solve problems holistically and achieve lasting success.
My goal is always to be patient and encouraging, in order to breakdown negative associations which may be creating barriers to learning.
Each learner presents different needs depending on their grasp of a subject and specific learning requirements. Some simply need support while working through homework, while others may require a complete reteaching of topics which were not grasped in class.
I always use the first lesson to meet and get to know the learner and the parent/s, discuss the needs of the learner, and come up with the best approach and structure for each lesson going forward.
