Personal Description:
I am currently studying B.Ed at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and am majoring in English and History (FET phase) and English and Social sciences (Senior phase). This year, I have received the Dean's Commendation for my first semester. I have received the Dux award when I was in primary school and have always collected the Top achiever award in high school. I am extremely passionate about teaching my chosen subjects and have knowledge about them, which I am willing to share. I love working with learners and am passionate about educating the youth.
Tutoring Experience:
I have tutored two Grade 12 learners in English Home language and Afrikaans First additional language. I have also taught English (home language), Afrikaans (First additional language) and Life Sciences to many of my classmates when I was in school. I also helped those in smaller grades(both in high school and primary school).
Tutoring Approach:
I allow learners to open up to me. They have the freedom to tell me what they struggle with, what their lessons at school entail, and what their strengths are. Concepts and content are generally explained to learners using PowerPoint slides with various colours and animations to catch the learner's attention. When a topic or section is chosen, I first explain all concepts and terms related to that topic. I then pause so that the learner can clarify any issues with me. Thereafter, I move on to worked examples and then ask the learner to work an example out with me. When the learner is confident in answering the examples, I provide a small activity to further strengthen the learner's understanding. During my lessons, I often crack small jokes to allow the learner to feel comfortable. I am open to questions, queries and learners viewing the work differently from me(provided it is acceptable in exams). Learners have the freedom to bring questions they struggle with to me.
