Personal Description:

My name is Minie. I am bilingual (English / Afrikaans) and have taught a variety of subjects and grades over my teaching years. I enjoy sharing knowledge. I am married and have 2 creative children. I am currently involved with lecturing as an Online B Ed lecturer. Therefore, my tutoring hours are restricted to afternoons only (14:00 - 17:00 weekdays). Unfortunately this causes me to have limited space available. I do travel to my clients (limited range from my home). Traveling costs (per km round-trip) will be discussed and then added to the tutoring fee.

Tutoring Experience:

I have 30+ years working experience in the educational and corporate industry. I am qualified and have experience in the Pre-school, Foundations phase, Primary school and High school education as well as lecturing at a Tertiary College. I have taught Afrikaans as a second language (Afrikaans EAT / Afrikaans FAL) formally for about 10 years. Over time I have taught a variety of subjects in the different grades. I have tutored and assisted home schoolers as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy one-on-one teaching. I make use of auditory, visual as well as written text when and where needed. Looking at the learner's workbook gives me a good idea of the work they are doing in class and/or for homework. This serves as a guideline for my tutoring. I like asking questions interacting with the learner to keep the lessons going. I encourage learners to read and allow me to correct them where needed with pronunciation and understanding. My aim is to help learners with Afrikaans as a subject. It is important to have learners who cooperate, bring their books and necessary instructions to sessions. I am here to help learners understand and apply the rules of Afrikaans as a language, understand instructions, broaden vocabulary and know terminology.
