Personal Description:
Hi there! My name is Megan . I am an energetic and enthusiastic person. I love kids and being able to help them to understand daunting work! I also have a passion for teaching ESL students English. My hobbies include playing guitar, singing, writing and sketching. I am a great problem solver and usually think outside the box.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching since 2019. Currently, I am an ESL trainer to French business level students from various countries (since 2022). I have taught students in grades ranging from grade 2 to matric level, as well as foreign language students. I have taught English Home Language and First Additional Language, Creative Arts, Life Skills and Life Orientation, Mathematics, Computer Application Studies, Life Sciences and Social Science history and geography. I do one on one teaching preferably, virtually over video conferencing software like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. I have taught at Impaq centres in rehabilitation facilities, Impaq tutoring centres and I have experience teaching using American School Curriculums privately.
Tutoring Approach:
Having taught many students with learning disabilities or limitations, I understand that education needs to be adaptable to each individual student. I like to be as consistent as I can with higher grades (grades 7 to 12) but I do things in a way that the student can relate to the information and develop a passion for it. For younger students, I have found that making learning a game in a sense, makes it interesting and less challenging. Students that challenge themselves to 'win' or reach the goal, will do so competitively and put in the most effort. When a student feels frustrated and struggles to concentrate I like to promote a "brain break" by having a discussion or distracting their focus so that the brain is refreshed and focused once back to the work.
