Personal Description:

My name is Leana and I live in the Karoo, an arid region with wide open spaces. I am an experienced AFRIKAANS (FIRST ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE), gr. 10-12, teacher (CAPS and IEB). I am also a part-time university e-tutor for Afrikaans Literature. I love nature, cats, have a passion for literature and tutoring Afrikaans. I am also a marker and a qualified proofreader.

Tutoring Experience:

Experience in a nutshell:
Total teaching experience = 25 years
School teacher: Afrikaans FAL gr. 10-12 = 6 years
Online teaching: e-tutor: university level = 11 years + online e-tutor Afrikaans FAL gr. 10-12 CAPS/IEB (3 jaar)

Tutoring Approach:

I am experiencing online tutoring as a learner and student friendly educational environment. I am using ZOOM and google documents, giving both tutor and student the opportunity to see and work on the same page simultaneously, while updating, homework, marking and editing can be done separately and in own time.
The success of an online lesson depends on good communication between tutor and learner/student: both parties must be informed about the focus aspect(s) of the next lesson(s), e.g. the learner must communicate his/her problem areas and/or the tutor must inform the learner/student of the planned aspects (according to the curriculum assessment plan) as well as the documents (study guide, literary texts, etc. etc.) to be ready for use before the lesson starts.
Punctuality is of utmost importance for both parties.
When there is a feeling of mutual trust between both parties, the learner/student will have the confidence to communicate his/her uncertainties, resulting in the building of confidence on a personal level, as well as in the relevant subject.
I know learners/students may have problems or questions between lessons, therefore my package includes free e-mail and/or WhatsApp communication whenever the learner/student needs my assistance or advice to finish homework or a task.
