Personal Description:

I am currently in my second year of my masters degree at the University of Pretoria. Positivity and hard work are two of the important qualities that have got me this far. In all the work I do or responsibilities I take on, I give it my all and form valuable relationships whilst respecting the borders of professionalism.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been tutoring for just over a year now, having learnt a lot and various techniques on how to relay information. I tutor a grade 7 girl in mathematics and a grade 12 boy in math literacy and geography. My grade 7 student ended grade 6 off with a 20% increase in her grade, progressing from a 40% to a 60% grade.

Tutoring Approach:

The way I approach tutoring is to primarily ensure the student understands the work. I do this by talking through the work and doing some examples together so that I can get an idea of where the student is at. From there, we work together to build a strong foundation. I find repetition to be a key in learning, doing examples and integrating the 'learnt' into the 'practiced.' In my experience, I have found that confidence is a significant contributor to success in any subject, and repetition is what contributes to a students confidence, removing the element of unnecessary doubt and second guessing. I have a corrective and positive approach to tutoring, rather working through an answer, instead of marking it wrong or right, and also find praise an important aspect, to acknowledge when hard work is observable.
