Personal Description:

My name is Erica I am a newly graduate from North West University Potchefstroom Campus. I studied Social work which trained me to have strong communication skills and active listening. I am a patient and empathic person. I always strive to empower others to become independent and better vision of themselves. I understand the difficulty of language barrier because as a student social worker I used to struggle communicating with some of my clients during our sessions as the results of language barrier. As the results i understand the importance of being multilingual because it allows one to communicate their thoughts very well.

Tutoring Experience:

In 2020 to 2021 I was an educators assistant helping teachers create tasks for learners that are fun and still beneficial for the school learners with the sole purpose of making learning enjoyable for them because I believe learning doesn't have to be extremely formal at all time, in order to accommodate students with low concentration span.
In 2019 I was a supplementary instructor for first year social work students. I assisted them by simplifying the content of the module in a manner that they understand and with strategies that they could apply when reading a question during test and exam times.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring includes more of active listening from myself as a tutor in order to identify the struggle that the students may have especially as a language tutor. Creating a safe space for the student to feel not judged is another approach that I use by being patient with the student and assisting them in the best way possible in order for them to understand also making use of total physical response depending on the age of the student to make learning a language easier for them.
