Information About Emily - Claremont tutor

Personal Description:

My name is Emily, I am a PhD student in Media Studies. I have a degree in English Literature, and I have a lot of passion for the language and its role in my studies. I focused on language and talk in my Masters thesis for this reason, and I would love the opportunity to help young people learn more about the language and excel in their classes.

I have been a writer, editor, and journalist for the past five years across multiple fields. My first love, though, is video games - and I have worked as a video games journalist for most of my career.

Tutoring Experience:

While I don't have a lot of teaching experience, I have led multiple groups and projects where I was required to go over others' work, edit it, and help put together the final product. These experiences have taught me how to work with others effectively, but also how to guide the needs of the people who need my help. Additionally, I have held multiple editing positions where I have been required to train colleagues for their positions and to work alongside me successfully.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring depends on the student. Through my time working with and helping others, I have learned that everybody has different needs when it comes to understanding and applying concepts. This is especially true with languages and fully grasping what you need to apply to succeed in classes and exams.

As such, the first thing I'll do is get to know the student first. This will give both of us the necessary tools to understand how they can improve their language skills or effectively prepare for exams.
