Information About Antoinette - Bela-Bela tutor

Personal Description:

I am a very young retiree with a passion to teach adults (and the elderly) some basics as well as more advanced computer skills. I do this by using a more informal and social way and focus on the student's needs and expectations. The purpose of my tutoring is to establish comfortable and easy ways to use a computer. Though this is not a formal part, I also teach people how to use cellphone technology and to get some knowledge on present trends. I consider tutoring someone to achieve some skills that they never thought they would manage, an extreme privilege.
I achieved a Bachelor in Consumer Science degree in the year of my 50th birthday. My main subjects were Food Science and Nutrition. I also had to pass an Intense Practical and Theoretical Year Module on End-User Computing. This is where I discovered the passion to share my knowledge with others around me. I am fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English.

Tutoring Experience:

I am an informal tutor / trainer on a daily basis, helping friends, family, older and less privileged people to learn basic and more advanced computer skills as well as cellphone technology, how to use both to make life easier and to stay up to date with the fast growing technology world around us.
I also studied Music Education at the University of Pretoria, and learnt some extremely important tutoring skills at the time.
Working with around 50 people as Lab Manager on a Plant in the mining environment for 15 years, I committed myself to proper hands-on training on a daily basis. This was in order to achieve extremely high standards in safe, secure and healthy performing of our daily tasks.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is important to firstly discover each student's personal potential, needs and expectations, and what exactly he / she wants to achieve or learn. I usually focus on what the student already knows, and then work towards achieving more skills. It is extremely satisfactory as tutor to see the reaction when someone discovers his own potential and abilities. Therefor, I use a systematic, patient and interesting approach to share my knowledge with lots of positive energy and encouragement. An honest and trustworthy relationship between tutor and student is particularly important. Due to the vast and ever changing nature of the computer and technology environment, I always try to stay up to standard with latest technology to the best of my ability.
