Personal Description:
*Surgically precise knowledge of EXACTLY what is assessed for the NCEA and CIE curriculum across all levels.
* A-level mathematics
*Distinction in Pre-U mathematics (highest qualification for mathematics available at the high school level).
*Bachelors of Engineering (Hons) at The University of Auckland.
*4 years private tuition experience.
*92% track record at delivering results for students (the 8% that didn't achieve the promised results were offered a 50% refund).
*Specialising in exam preparation for students who have fallen behind throughout the year and have an upcoming external assessment.
*Founder of the only tutoring system targeted at empowering struggling students cramming for exams. Where no other companies expect commitment from their tutors outside of the paid hour, our tutors painstakingly monitor students throughout the week, ensuring that our students are practising the vital solution methods for their upcoming assessments. At any given time, a line of contact is established between our students and tutors such that the instance the student runs into a learning obstacle in the absence of the tutor, the student can contact the tutor for immediate assistance.
Tutoring Experience:
Goal-orientated, results-driven approach:
The ways our approach is unique:
*Student is encouraged to contact tutors outside of lesson hours with any issues they run into. A line of contact in the form of Messenger, cellular, or Skype is established at all times between the student and tutor.
*Tutors monitor students outside of lesson hours to ensure that the students are practising the problems. If the tutor suspects that the student isn’t practicing the problems, an intervention will promptly follow.
*Teaching dynamic is tantamount to the dynamic between the student and a close friend;. This is crucial for students to feel at ease. If a student does not feel at ease, they will hesitate to request that the tutor reiterate explanations.
*I do not expect students to come up with the problems that need going over. I ascertain in the first lesson exactly where the student is at, where they need to be, and tailor our approach to achieving those goals. Every lesson is a sequential progression to becoming exam ready. Each lesson is painstakingly planned and tailored toward enabling the student at answering their next exam.
*Our tuition approach focuses on selective study; this means that if a student studies the NCEA level 2 curriculum, the tutor MUST be a former student who has completed that curriculum, and subsequently know exactly what is needed to perform in the exams.
Tutoring Approach:
The unspoken truth about tuition is that very rarely will a student's grades ever see satisfactory improvement as a result of hiring a tutor. This is due to the fact that most tutors are screened only for teaching qualifications and their level of ‘expertise’. In reality, knowing the content accounts for less than 8% of an effective tuition experience. What is overlooked, is the ability of a tutor to engage with a student and subsequently empower them to overcome their struggles. The only way to effectively engage with a student is to communicate with them in the same way their peers would; unfortunately, this is something most ‘qualified’ teachers cannot do. It’s the same reason why adults wouldn’t feel at ease if their employers were to teach them something they struggled at. The standard tuition approach also neglects to account for the student’s issues outside of tuition hours, which is what matters most. It is nothing short of delusional to expect that a tutor will comprehensively remedy a student’s struggles in the single paid hour every week; standard tuition dictates that a tutor need not commit to the student outside of paid hours.
I DO NOT TAKE THE STANDARD TUITION APPROACH.
Successful tuition begins with being able to engage with students in ways they can relate to, selective study, and seeing to it that the student conducts effective study outside of tuition hours.
