Personal Description:
My name is Sofia, and I'm a 4th medical student at the University of Auckland, training to be a doctor. I've moved to Tauranga to work in Tauranga hospital!
I've realised over the last 15 years that learning can be hard, and having a good teacher can make all the difference. I am a teacher who is passionate about their subject and kind when things are difficult. I also want to challenge my students in the subject they are learning, in a way that makes them feel confident about their knowledge!
When I'm not teaching or studying, I love to hike around New Zealand, travel and spend time at the beach.
Tutoring Experience:
My experience teaching started early in high school, with one-on-one sport coaching sessions where I would develop personalised sessions for the people I was teaching. I have had a lot of practice planning and executing teaching sessions, in both sport and academics internally in my high school. Furthermore, I have helped my younger brother through his high school years, proof-reading essays and working through practice questions. Furthermore, I have had many paid roles training new employees in hospitality settings, so I know the importance of clear and kind communication.
Tutoring Approach:
Here are some key points of my sessions!
Teaching style: I will focus on practice questions as the basis for my teaching. Using test/exam scenarios to learn the details of a subject has proved effective for me in the past. Having said this, I expect to cater to the way my students learn and think, and am flexible in how I run a session. I understand how differently people learn, and expect that this will be a key factor in individualising the way I teach each student.
Session time: 1-2 hours, depending on the student's needs.
Who are these lessons for?: Any student wanting to to learn! I am open to any one who wants a passionate, focused tutor. I received excellence grades in all the subjects I am tutoring in high school, so am well-versed in the NCEA system as well as the content.
When and where: Sessions will largely be online, after 3 o-clock on weekdays. **Weekends can be arranged student to student.**
I am open to teaching anyone that thinks I am the tutor for them!
