Information About Sebastian - Auckland tutor

Personal Description:

I began playing piano as a hobby when I was eight years old, growing up in Bogota, Colombia. Eventually, this led to my pursuit of an undergraduate degree in classical piano at Sergio Arboleda University. During this time, I discovered a passion for composition, which inspired me to pursue a Master’s degree at Javeriana University.

After teaching piano and music theory for several years, I have now decided to further my education by pursuing a Ph.D. in composition at the University of Auckland.

I love playing piano and creating music. Trough the last 8 years I also discovered my love for teaching music. I’m always working on becoming a better musician, and I’ve discovered that teaching is a very important part of that.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught piano lessons as an independent tutor since 2015.

I have also worked in various music academies since that time.

Tutoring Approach:

I focus on developing a good music sheet reading, since that really helps students to advance a lot faster. I also focus a lot on technique, since those two things are what can boost the learning speed of an instrument.

While my main focus is classical music, I can play a bit of some other styles. The goal is to always be playing music that the student likes.
