Personal Description:
I am a Math and Physics tutor. I was a full-time permanent lecturer in one of the top universities in China. When I was teaching in University, I visited and was doing research in world top university in Hong Kong, U.S.A, Canada and Australia. I have been studying for Ph. D in Electronic and Computing Engineering in the University of Auckland. I have dual master’s degree in Math and Physics. I love teaching as a professional and I have finished Certificate in Education. I have been teaching and tutoring math and physics in New Zealand since 2003. Since getting my degree I have taught at university and private schools, I also graded exams that were assigned to me by the department. Over the past few years I've studied extensively the best practices for delivering online education and use the best equipment and online education software.
I taught several courses included calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, Mechanics, Wave, and electricity. I also run various workshops and solving problem lessons/tutorials. In the past, I have prepared high school students for the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). I am a coordinator to run Australian Mathematics Competition, USA Mathleague.org contests, UK primary Math Challenge, International Metal Math Olympiad in New Zealand.
I have had a few private students (10 to 15 hours per week) from Auckland's top schools each year that demanded more advanced lessons for the IB Diploma, Cambridge IGCSE, AS/A levels, or the Mathematical Olympiad.
I am a passionate and enthusiastic tutor. And I like to help high school students to get high scores in scholarship math, Cambridge Math and IB math exams. I also do the tutoring for math selection test and competitions, HSPT (High School Placement Test / extension class testing), AMC (Australian Mathematics Competition), Mathex, Otago math competition, American AMC8,10 and 12, etc.
Many students were found through word-of-mouth, so my full experience is not recorded on these websites. Included in that are various members of the same family and friend groups
I also helped students with applications to universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, UCL, Imperial with students successfully heading to all of these. I have helped students prepare for the Maths Admissions Test (MAT) and Physics Aptitude Test (PAT).
In August 2022 I was particularly happy to see all five of my A level Physics tutees achieve an A* in Physics at A level, with A*/A in all their Math and Further Math exams too.
I acted as an Physics tutor for a students in New Zealand giving them guidance from year 9 to improve their physics with a view to applying to top university to study physics. As part of this I offered extensive advice on readings, technique, style, historical context and mathematical tools with regards to physics. Seeing students gain confidence and achieve their goals makes my tutoring a rewarding experience.
Tutoring Experience:
One of my students was top in New Zealand Math and physics competition in 2021. In the last 20 years I was tutoring students from year 1 to year 13. My teaching experience is vast, and I have an amazing relationship with all my students, as I offer many different extra-curricular activities, such as: Math for fun competition, Science Project.
I have taught general mathematics, calculus, geometry, and differential equations to gifted students for 14 years.
I taught:
1- Mathematical Olympiad
2- NCEA (New Zealand System) Math and Physics
3- IGCSE, AS and A level ( Cambridge System)Math and Physics
4- IB Diploma Year 12/13 Math and Physics
5- Calculus and Linear algebra and differential equations for university courses.
6- Running online classes with Zoom application.
Tutoring Approach:
Make students love the subject and enjoy studying it.
Giving the student well-prepared homework and assessing the learning.
Prepare the students for competitions and entrance exams.
Make students to be confident with solving problems and working with advanced books. By reviewing the student's homework, delving into any mistakes for a thorough understanding. Each lesson will cover clear learning outcomes. I also provide study and revision notes to cultivate a genuine appreciation for the subject.
I offer a tailored approach for different students, after the initial assessment. I strongly believe that I can provide the desired results for parents and students My important aspect in tutoring is to explain the marking schemes and to use past papers as examples and assessment. I have unlimited online access to all the materials (teaching resources, past papers, guides for students).
The overall approach is to put the student first and see what works for them, if they just want lots of exam questions practice that is fine, or more background / understanding to enable them to link together the subject more as a whole. If they are struggling, we focus on just building up from the very basics and making sure those basics are solid by repetition and many examples.
Every student is different, and I aim to cater to their specific needs. For those who prefer a more structured learning style, I collaborate to create a comprehensive study plan aligned with their end-of-year goals. The plan includes a systematic cycle of content learning, practice sessions, and reflective exercises. I also consider their ability to self-study because I firmly believe that most of the progress hinges on the ability to engage independently. My role is to enhance studying, making it more enjoyable, efficient, and ensuring you stay on track.
Other students prefer to take the lead and come to me with specific topics or questions they find difficult during their studies. For those seeking a deeper dive into the subject and aiming for top marks, I address their immediate concerns, assess their weaknesses in the topic, and provide recommendations on what and how to study to achieve optimal results.
I always return back to student’s e-mails, phone calls as soon as possible (during 6 hours under normal circumstances).
