Personal Description:

I am a 2nd year engineering student studying at the University of Auckland. I attended Auckland Grammar School and completed A levels in all the subjects I offer, achieving A* for all of them. I enjoy tutoring because it is a very fulfilling task to help a student grow and become more confident in a given subject, as well as because it allows me to use the knowledge I gained in high school in a productive and useful way. I received tutoring for a portion of my time in high school, so I understand what a difference the one-on-one assistance can make for a student.

I have been privately tutoring for about 3 years

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to help the students understand the underlying concepts behind the questions they have problems with and to explain them in an intuitive way so that they can apply this knowledge to every question they face. I find that this helps them gain more confidence and a greater ability to solve similar problems on their own (i.e. in an exam) as opposed to just showing them the solution for a given problem. I believe that working with the student to help them discover the solutions themselves is more effective than plainly telling them the answer. Learning how to approach questions and having a process to solve them is very important in highschool and even more so afterwards so I think it is key to develop this skill.
